"Unlike auction houses or galleries we don't own any stock. We don't have any exhibitions or artists to promote and sell. Our objective is to fulfil the requirements of our clients," says Raikhel-Bolot. "It's about helping clients make informed decisions when investing in art and helping them with authentication and attribution of works." 1858's reputation and experience in the marketplace certainly impressed HSBC, which engaged the company as their in-house art and design advisory service, leveraging its own service, introduced in 2007, on 1858's name.

"I extend the trade price to the client", says Raikel-Bolot, referring to the 30 per cent discount she can potentially negotiate off the ticket price. "When you compare that to an advisory fee , we add significant value to transactions."
